What it is

Polo Beach Park is a beautiful, crescent-shaped, golden-sand beach located in the upscale resort area of Wailea in South Maui. It fronts the Fairmont Kea Lani Resort and the Polo Beach Club, yet remains open to the public. Known for its soft sand and clear waters, it offers picturesque views of Molokini Crater and Kahoʻolawe. The full Hawaiian name, "Ke One o Polo," translates to "the sand is not thick."

South swells, particularly in summer, can bring larger waves, shore break, and strong rip currents, making conditions dangerous. It's advisable to avoid the beach during large swells. Always check local weather forecasts and ocean conditions.
  • Underwater Hazards: The beach has rocky points at both ends where snorkeling is good, but visitors should watch out for scattered rocky patches and submerged rocks, especially when entering the water. The water is generally shallow but has some slippery rocks.
  • Water Quality: Polo Beach generally has excellent water quality and a low risk of bacteria due to its location in a dry area with minimal rainfall and good water circulation.
